Penn Neuroscience Public Lecture 10/16

The students of Penn’s Neuroscience PhD program are excited to announce a Neuroscience Public Lecture entitled “Your ‘Plastic’ Brain: How Stress, Injury, and Sleep Change Your Brain” scheduled for Thursday, October 16th in Smilow Auditorium at 6:30pm.  This FREE event will feature 3 fifteen minute TED-style talks from Penn Neuroscience faculty members Tracy Bale, Akiva Cohen, and Amita Sehgal. A reception will follow.

Attention Graduate Student Organizations 2014-2015

Attention Graduate Student Organizations & Officers:

You MUST attend the Student Organization Officer Training (SOOT) on Wednesday, October 1st 6-8pm in the Sky View Room (6th Floor, MacAlister Hall) in order to be eligible for GSA funding this year. No ifs, ands, or buts.

The President, Vice President, and Treasurer (or equivalent positions such as event planning, etc.) MUST attend. Only those officers who attend the SOOT will be eligible to spend money or receive reimbursement…period. General members/non-officers or officers who do not submit pre-event forms and receive GSA approval for each and every event/purchase will NOT be reimbursed. DO NOT ASSUME. Many of Drexel’s policies have changed and we need to stay abreast.

Please do not forget to submit your 2013-2014 budget proposal by 10/8 or you will not be eligible for funding this year. The link for the form is: You must still submit pre- and post-event form for each budgeted purchase or event this year.

Intel’s Engineering Leadership Program (ELP)

Intel’s ELP is a first-of-its-kind technical leadership development program for engineers and scientists in the computing industry. We are looking for candidates with a PhD in a variety of engineering and science backgrounds to take part in a 2-year program in which they will work with fellow new recruits, seasoned Intel engineers, and Intel’s vice presidents and fellows on the hardest problems in computing today. Career Exploration and Networking Opportunity for STEM Graduate Students and Postdocs (App Deadline 9/16)

On December 8, 2014, the New York Academy of Sciences and PepsiCo will host a special Journey through Science Day at the Academy’s headquarters in New York City. Fifty exceptional students and early career scientists (MS, PhD, postdoc) will be selected for this unique opportunity to interact with PepsiCo’s R&D leadership, learn about their efforts to develop products rooted in science-based nutrition, and get an exclusive glimpse of how science has shaped their careers. Additionally, each participant will be asked to present a poster on their research to highlight and share their own activities and interests with PepsiCo. Fed’s 2014 Community Development Graduate Research Forum 10/21 (Abstracts due 9/16)

Check out registration for the Fed’s 2014 Community Development Graduate Research Forum which is now open!  Flyer linked below, as well as a preliminary agenda.  The following are a few things about the event that I’d like to highlight:

  • The forum will be held on Tuesday, October 21, at the Federal Reserve Bank of Philadelphia.  The program will run from 11:30 a.m. until 5:00 p.m. and will be followed by a networking reception.
  • Students and faculty can register here.
  • Students who would like to present their community development-related research should submit an abstract to by Tuesday, September 16.
  • In addition to student presentations, the event will also include career advice from a panel of local community development practitioners and scholars.
